Mouth Guards

Dental Services | Winnipeg Services | Southwood Dental Centre

Our Winnipeg dentists offer custom mouth guards to help protect your oral health.

What is a Mouth Guard?

A mouth guard is a custom-made tray that fits over your teeth. By taking a mold of your teeth, our dentist will ensure a secure, comfortable fit. Custom mouth guards from our dental office can help protect your teeth and jaw from damage, and prevent any future dental problems.

Sports Guards

Your dentist can create a custom sports mouth guard to protect your teeth from injury during sports activities.

Most often used in contact sports, like hockey and football, mouth guards are also a good idea for any sport where there's a chance that your face will come into contact with another person or object, like in soccer and gymnastics.

If you get hit in the mouth during a high-impact activity, a mouth guard will absorb the impact more evenly, providing a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue of your mouth.

Brux Guards

Your dentists can create a custom brux guard for you to protect your teeth while you sleep.

If you grind your teeth, a brux guard will act as a barrier to help protect your teeth from damaging each other. If you suffer from TMD, a brux guard will help you from clenching your jaw and give you some pain relief.

Bruxism & TMD

Bruxism is the medical term used to describe clenching or grinding of the teeth that occurs during sleep and can cause damage to the teeth by wearing them down over time.

Chronic bruxism also puts repeated pressure on the muscles, tissues, and structures around your jaw which can lead to jaw problems.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the jaw's hinge, located at the front of each ear. This joint enables your jaw to move up and down, in order to speak and chew.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a common jaw joint disorder characterized by symptoms such as jaw pain, headaches and ringing in the ears. If left untreated, TMD can eventually lead to bone loss, gum tissue changes and loose teeth.

Southwood Dental Centre is always welcoming new patients.
